Named after the Spanish word for "basket", the Canasta Mug is inspired by the collection of potatoes in the high Andes in Peru for the traditional meal of pachamanca, and traditional means of cooking this meal, the Wathiya in Quechua. Mudstones are carefully assembled into a ground oven, and meat, potatoes and herbs are placed inside to cook. During the process the local mudstones end up completely black due to the firing of the earth.
