Hello, my name is Cindy Valdez, I am the founder of Migration of Matter Studio, we make 3D Printed ceramics tableware and Interior Products in Berlin and this is my story.
How did it all begin? |
I was born and raised in Peru, in a small village called Quilmaná-Canete, of which I am incredibly proud. One day, I woke up with a strong desire to explore the world, and at the age of 20, I came to Germany as an au pair. Berlin, a city I knew very little about, embraced me like no other place had before.
Berlin welcomed me with open arms and provided me with an au pair family that became like my own. It offered me the opportunity to pursue my passion for studying something that had only been a dream in my home country. It gave me the chance to chase dreams that I felt could become a reality here.
This year, we officially launched MoM with the help of many amazing souls and my co-founders who joined me on this crazy journey. But it is also a story that has been in my heart ever since I understood how important it was for me to create functional elements with soul. It is a story of relentless hard work and sacrifice, but work that comes straight from the heart!
I had the incredible opportunity to study product design at UdK Berlin, where I learned the basics of traditional ceramics techniques, starting from porcelain to slip casting. One day, by accident, I stumbled upon a workshop on 3D Printing ceramics, and from that moment on, I was captivated. I have been working with 3D Printing ceramics since 2015, falling in love with this new technique that provided me with endless possibilities for creation. I pursued my Master's at Weißensee Art School in Berlin because I wanted to deepen my knowledge of ceramics and study under the guidance of Professor Barbara Schmidt, an expert in ceramics and glass. It was a dream come true to have such a mentor to guide me on my path and an amazing ceramic workshop to work at the school.
Since then, I haven't stopped, and I don't plan to. When you work on something from its very beginning, you don't want to stop until you see it understood by the people.
I want my work to be functional, but I also want it to have a voice. I am driven by the dream of opening new doors and providing new perspectives in ceramic creation. I want to continue working, observing and researching nature, specially biodiversity, to bring fresh aesthetics into interior spaces. I want to broaden the public's perception and help them see the variety of forms that surround us in nature.
"It is time to offer something new, an intersection between technology and craftsmanship, and at MoM, we are not afraid to explore it." C.V |
